CURRENT PROJECTS

This is what I'm up to at the current moment...

CUT+DELETE

This is my current solo project. More to come soon!

AKAW!

AKAW! is the brainchild of guitarist Dave Puechner. It's a fun-loving, high energy surf rock band that showcases styles from the 60's, as well as elements of garage rock and punk. The party is always brought when we get on the stage, as the vibe of the show compels listeners to dance, clap, and sing along.

PAST PROJECTS

Here's some of my past work that I can still find compelling media for...

THE FADE

THE FADE was a project I put together with my brother when we moved to Austin. We wrote an album's worth of songs and then jammed them out at a number of shows in Austin. I've carried many of the songs written in this period of time along with me and have been polishing them along the way. The project was short lived but I've always thought the material has a lot of potential. You just may hear some of these songs in some of my current or future works...

THE HORRIFICS

I joined The Horrifics at the suggestion of a coworker when I was a retail worker at Hot Topic. They needed a bass, and I was looking for bigger gig at the time. The band was a rippin' horror-punk outfit that drew from musical influences such as Misfits, Type O Negative, and Balzac, as well as horror themes in pop-culture and media. The frontman, Corey Gray, is a huge personality with a wealth of knowledge and deep interests. If I wasn't blasting punk music with them into the late hours of the night, I was probably studying Wing Chun under Corey, who has instructor-level knowledge in many disciplines of kung-fu.

ADVENTUM

ADVENTUM was my band with my brother Barrett Cooper and another friend. We put ourselves somewhere between 90's garage, funk, and 2000's rock, channeling artists such as Foo Fighters, Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Pearl Jam. Our collective tastes were very different and we tried to bring that to table. We played loose and loud and had a great time. We'd go on to play a handful of shows in the DFW area.

HISTORY

I've been doing music in some capacity for many years. Learned piano when I was 11, basically so I could learn to play the songs from my favorite video games (Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Legend of Zelda...). Once I got a few of 'em down I was hooked, and my interest in the art as a whole started to grow. You can still catch me playing alot of the tunes I learned way back when, though.

When I hit middle school, I picked up the saxophone. I ended up taking to it pretty quickly, and found myself playing all sorts of jazz and ensemble music at school, as well as jamming to rock music at home.

At some point during my schooling, I started studying jazz piano with the incredible Julie Bonk, who opened up my musical world even further. Lots of jazz, music theory, and improvisation was learned under her instruction, and she even introduced me to my first gigs as a pianist back when I was a teenager. She deserves a lot of the credit for my progression as a musician.

At some point in my early teens, I discovered rock music and the effect that electric guitar had on my pubescent body, and had to pick up guitar. Luckily for me, we had one collecting dust in the house that I was able to tinker with. At the time I remember being determined to learn Thunderstruck by ACDC. I would later go on to discover nu-metal bands like Korn and System of a Down, and from there began a life-long obsession with heavy music. I picked up a BOSS OD-20 and it was over. I busted many a cheap amp with that thing...

From there it's just been a long line of jams, shows, and songs; doing what I do.
